Adwords Marketing Tips
Google AdWords is a great way to market your business. However, you can easily burn through a pile of cash if you don't know what your doing. With the following tips you will learn how to save money by advertising effectively with AdWords. I've been using Google's Adwords advertising system for a number of years, with success most of the time but I have had my failures also. The following tips will help you create Adwords marketing ads that generate higher click through rates, and lower cost per click.
-
Use your main keywords in the text of your ads
The "Title" of your ad should contain the main keywords you are targeting. If you are running an ad for adwords marketing and your main keyword is "adwords marketing" then the Title of your ad should have "Adwords Marketing" in it in order to show that your ad is relevant. Google will bold search keywords in your ad if they're present. So have as many of your search terms within your ad to help it stand out from the crowd. -
Keep your keyword list short
A number of adwords marketing experts promote having keyword lists in the hundreds, the problem with that theory is you can't really target your audience with that many keywords. Instead create many ad groups, each with a short list of no more than 25 to 30 keywords. -
Use keyword match types
Broad Match - This is the default match type in Google Adwords. If you include phrases such as adwords marketing in your keyword list your ad will appear when users search for adwords and marketing in any order. This could result in your CTR being lower and your account getting penalized by Google Adwords.
Use quotation marks "..." or square brackets “[...]” around your keywords or phrases to get a Phrase Match or Exact Match in your adwords marketing campaign.
An example:
"adwords marketing" Phrase match (ad will show for searches such as google adwords marketing)
[adwords marketing] Exact match (Your adwords ad will only show when the search is for the exact phrase or keyword you have included within the quotation marks or brackets) -
Determine your initial bid
The Adwords marketing system determines placement by both bid and Click Through Rate(CTR). To achieve a higher CTR, you need to first generate clicks on your ad. Bidding higher at first will place your ad on the first page and allow it to be seen early in the search results. Once you achieve a high CTR, you can lower your bids. Be careful when starting out and at all costs avoid getting into a bidding war. Don't waste money bidding on a handful of high volume keywords. Expand your keyword list to include more specific keywords that have a lower search volume. Use keyword research tools to expand your list of keyword phrases. -
Run Multiple Ads Simultaneously
Always run multiple ads simultaneously in order to find out which on produces the best CTR. This is known as an A/B split test. When first creating your ads just change one part of each ad such as the "Title" then replace the weaker performing ad with a new one. Continue this process to get the highest CTR possible. -
Use Call to Action words or phrases
Always use attention grabbing phrases in your adwords marketing ads that provoke emotion, enthusiasm and a response.
Call-to-action phrase examples:
Buy Now
Buy Today - Save 50%
Download Free Trial Now
Sale Ends Tomorrow
Make sure the phrase is specific to your business, otherwise it may be rejected by Google. -
Target a relevant landing page
For most marketing campaigns, don't send the visitor to your home page. Choose a landing page that includes relevant and useful information from the search. In fact it's usually worth it to create a custom page that is designed to convert visitors. -
Use negative keywords to deter Freebie Hunters
If you are selling a product or service you don't want to be paying for clicks from people looking for freebie's so add negative keywords to your adwords campaign.
This may reduce your CTR but it will improve your overall conversion ratio and lower your cost. You can also put the price in your ad to help deter freebie hunters.
If you sell products or services include negative keywords like:
-free
-cheap
-discount
Conclusion
Remember that adwords marketing is a never ending series of ad testing. Always track your Return on Investment. You can never stop testing different keywords and ads to improve your CTR and lower your cost. Never be afraid of pulling the plug on an unprofitable ad campaign better sooner than later.
